Parkour is Popular. What of it?

In today's society parkour has recently gained some unusual popularity. Parkour is a form of training in which the practitioner gets from point A to point B in the most efficient way possible. The most common misconception with parkour is that it involves flips and stunts. Parkour is the same as freerunning but freerunning involves the flips and stunts, parkour does not require flips and stunts. Freerunning is the art of parkour. The question is, why is it getting so popular.

The first and most obvious thing is new marketing. In recent video games parkour has been portrayed as a skill that the protagonist possesses and uses to save the world. The first game and the most prominent one is Mirror's Edge. This game puts the protagonist in the role of a parkour master who is fighting against the government. The next game also puts the protagonist in the role of a parkour master. In the Assassins's Creed series, the main protagonist always knows parkour and uses that to stealthy assassinate all the villains. Even in newer games are being marketed toward parkour practitioners. One of the games that are coming out soon, Watch Dogs, is even has been tagged as parkour. In today's day and age parkour is deemed as the skill of the protagonist. It is quite obvious why people want to follow the role of the protagonist.

Parkour is about efficiency and control. Performing parkour involves efficiency of getting from point A to point B. To perform these feats of agility one must be strong, fit, and able to accurately control their body. Parkour is all about control of the body. Once you master full control of your body, you will be able to perform any trick or stunt you want. You need to have control over both your mental and physical body. Without the physical part you can't perform the stunts. Without the mental part you won't be able to overcome your fears.

Why do people practice parkour if it's so dangerous? The point of parkour is control and the people who practice parkour want that control. Maybe not in the actual sense of physical control. It might be a physiological effect. The people who want to master parkour want to gain control of their own life. Parkour is the sense of rebellion and control. In Mirror's edge the protagonist is rebelling against the government and wrestling for control over the corrupt government.

People want control, is this what our society is coming to? When someone wants more control, they are lacking it or need more. Our society used to be institutionalized and now our society is slowly obtaining more freedom. Getting that small taste of freedom has led to people wanting more freedom. This is why parkour has become so popular.

Taxonomy of Hate

Why do people hate? Everyone has heard of "Hate is a strong word." It is truly a strong word and we need to stop using. The question I'm solving today is why people hate other people. While this can be applied to objects, this post will be directed at interactions between people.

Have you ever hated someone? Are you currently someone? It's something everyone should think about once in a while. When you hate someone why do you hate them? Even if this is just a minor set of dislike, all of these can still apply. So what specific reason do you dislike this person? There is a variety of different reasons that people dislike others while most of them have no stable basis in a solid argument.

The first category of hatred is physical difference. We hate them because they look different. In today's day and age most people are moving away from this set of ideas that physical difference doesn't define a person. That is what people should learn, physical appearance doesn't define a person, it only gives us a physical memory of what to associate a person with. If you look at your friend you will know exactly what he/she is like in the inside, while if your friend had their brain/soul transplanted to another person, you would still associate the physical appearance of your original friend with the way they are. You will find it extremely difficult to adjust to your "new" friend. Physical appearance is only a way to easily distinguish people.

The second classification of hatred is psychological differences/preferences. This involves the way people think, this is what people take as a rationale for hating someone. This is what everyone thinks is the right way to hate someone. However this is no real way to hate someone. In America we believe that people have the freedom to express what we believe without persecution. This principle is almost impossible to reinforce. People who want to commit to a revolutionary idea tend to find themselves alone and ostracized. In this way they pull back and stop their provocation. People hate them because they have different ideas.

The third category is their decisions and actions. This category covers physical acts and choices. This may seem like it's under the category of differences but it's not. When someone is posed the option to help someone, some people will say no. Many will say that they hate this person and their decision. You must note that I gave no context to the situation of helping someone. When context is put in, people will often reconsider. Everyone's decisions and actions are made out of their personality. Everyone has noticed this in which you can predict the answers to questions by various people based on your knowledge of them. They will have their own rationale and reasons for making the decision, what right does another person have to judge the other. While judgement is a trait that stems from human nature, in modern society people need to move away from cursory judgement. How many people do you know that you have judged unfairly. Give them another chance, they might surprise you.

The last grouping is envy. This is simple. You hate someone because they have something that you don't. Either it's something that you can't get or they can't share. Both way's it's hatred. When you encounter this kind of hatred often the solution is that you are overlooking the fact that people are unique in one way but are often not unique in other ways. You may think that someone has something that you want, but you fail to consider what you would lose to get that.

Think of someone you hate. Try to find out why you hate them, if you have trouble, put it in a category first then solve it from there. Once you figure out why you hate them, try to solve the problem. If you end up figuring out that it's impossible to solve, might as well tell them up front that you hate them, with the reason. Maybe it's something that only they can solve. It's often worth it to give it a try.

The World Sucks, Doesn't It? (2)

This is not a continuation of my previous post, it's simply a shortening of it, think of it as a summary written in a more declarative tone.

Most people agree that the world sucks in one way or another, although the extent to which it sucks may vary from person to person. Everyone thinks this way. While everyone thinks this way, everyone should think in the opposite way. The majority of people consider life to be boring and they would rather live in that fantasy world of their dreams where they play the protagonist and always wins. Living in this fantasy world is the wrong approach to life.

In the fantasy world you always win, that's what's wrong about it. If you always win, you will not know defeat. That might sound like a good thing, however failure is better than winning. When you win you learn nothing, when you fail you have the opportunity to learn everything. One needs to seize this opportunity and learn from their mistakes. In this fantasy world of constant victory, when something upsets you it will simply cease to exist or it will have never existed at all. If this was the case with the real world, the world would have ended long ago. If we look to our mistakes as our achievements in life instead of our failures, the world would look very different.

Look at your life, what do you see? I worthless human striving for something so high yet they can't reach it? A being setting their goals to where no improvement is gained? Or you see someone that is setting their goals in the right spot? You  need to set your goals just out of your reach, then all you have to do is push yourself to stretch a bit to reach it. Changing is quite hard, but one should not give up. When you make a piece of art, it's always good to take a step back from your work while you're working on it and re-adjust it. If it looks a bit bad do you scrap the whole thing? No, you simply try to fix your mistakes. What if it is bad?

In art, one can say this is too bad and irreparable, I'll just have to scrap this. This is where art and real life differ, you should never give up. In art you can start new, but in real life, you only have one canvas. You were only given one canvas to work with. This is not the time to mess up, this is your chance to shine, if it means changing everything, maybe it's for the better. If you were given a dilapidated canvas it doesn't matter. As long as you have one you can make something, maybe you can even utilize the materiality of the deformed canvas to your advantage. Create something different then others.

Some say the world is fair. That's not true. People get different opportunities and some live better lives than others. Yet we only have one life and we need to live it to the extent that we can, when our lives end, you should not be sad that you ran out of time. Your life ends for a reason, it means you are done. While the piece may look incomplete to you, it's done, and it's over. It's time to put down the brush. Even if your piece is unfinished, maybe the people next to you glanced over and have been inspired. This inspiration is a spark of hope. You've given something to the world that can't be taken away.

What if you've already done enough. It's never okay to use that as a reason to end your life. Putting down your brush intentionally doesn't mean you're done, it means you've given up. You need to wait patiently for the teacher. Only he can tell you when you are done, no one else, and if you sit there waiting for the teacher to say you are done, he will not come, you are not done. You are sitting on your life doing nothing. Death by old age is everyone's goal. Wisdom comes with old age. Once enough wisdom is accumulated, your death becomes inevitable. Maybe death shouldn't be such a bad word. Why not lighten up the mood? You have that chance in your life, drive your life forward and upward.

The Fallacies of the American Education System

To get my argument across. A lot of people will agree with me that the American Education System currently in place is flawed and probably should be revised however impossible it may seem. The current education system is not a determination of how smart you are but on the contrary, it determines nothing in particular. It does however determine certain traits. The problem is, it's hard to distinguish these traits from one another with this current system. The one trait that this education system is aimed at is dedication. The point is that if you are dedicated to anything and you are a somewhat healthy human being, you will receive great grades and probably beat everyone in terms of grade point average.

The misconception here about the education system is that it grades you based on how "smart" you are. Smart is a very broad term that has no specific meaning. Smart refers to someone that excels in one particular field. As long as you excel in that one field, you can be considered smart without needing too much knowledge in the other fields. Intelligence is in basic principle the concept of being very adaptable. Adaptable in the way of being able to easily grasp concepts and to formulate "new" ideas based on previous preconceptions you may have had. This is not what the education system in America is actually grading you on. The American system only focuses on dedication. If you are smart and have no dedication, your grades will reflect badly. If you are not smart and have extreme dedication, your grades will reflect well. The optimum place people should be at is generally smart and more than average dedication. This is where people will get the most from their grades. Dedication will weigh much more heavily on your grade than smarts do. Even though smarts will effect your grade.

Another thing that people don't realize is that while our educational hierarchy preaches dedication, in the process of doing so, it teaches us how to be dumb. The primary example here is that the education system teaches us, "There is one right answer." When you apply this one right answer concept to anything else outside of school, it seems to collapse. As a result, after students leave high school, they still look for this one right answer. Their mind has been dumbed down and now has forgotten the idea of creative thinking and formulating unique thoughts based on previous information. A multiple choice answer always has one answer. This one answer concept almost never applies in real life. When in reality does one actually have to choose between right and wrong. Every single answer to a question has some right parts of it and some wrong parts of it. We just have to choose one and hope that there was more right than wrong. There in lies another problem. What's right and what's wrong, although this is another topic.

Do I believe that we can reform the education system today? No, it would not be possible. The education system works in this respect. While it does not grade us based on our intelligence, it grades us on our dedication. Dedication is what people want in the work place. Society works as an assembly line. People get created (Education), People are put through a trial to test if creation was a success(Grades), based on results, people get moved to different places (Jobs). If you have good grades, you will likely be hired because of this concept of dedication. While most workplaces don't realize it, dedication is what they look for. It's simply, getting people with good grades in our workplace makes it better, therefore if we get more people that have good grades it will work better. While some workplaces don't realize this concept, they are completely tied to the education system that we have today. While there are propositions to change it, such as getting rid of one answer questions in everything and teaching students to think from all viewpoints, it's not going to be likely to change anything. I believe even with the faulty education system, it should not change because it's still a working system. The problem I have with this system is it's name, why call it an education system where you are simply dumbing people down instead of making them smarter?

Myths on the Topic of Religion

What I found most interesting  about this was the concept that religion is actually a method of how to live life. Instead of why the universe exists. Great philosophers  don't actually reply to the question being asked but instead asks the question in a different light. Religion seems on the surface to be an answer of why the universe exists but is actually a metaphor to explain a way of experiencing the world in which we are living.

From the way I see it, religion is a way for most people to assign a purpose into their life. Based on this story of the creation of how the universe works, people create goals for themselves to guide them on their path through life. The reason people create these goals for themselves is at it's root in human nature. To live one must have a goal. Without a goal we cease to live. Every second of your life there is a goal in your mind. If you don't have a goal you are dead. Life is the act of having a goal. As we are humans it's quite difficult to actually not have a goal and based on how you define a goal, impossible to stop having goals.

There is something that most people don't understand though because of a misconception that we carry. The reason why most people follow a religion is because we are all lemmings. What I mean by this is that most people cease to have individual thoughts. Everyone lives their lives based on something because we are simply incapable of generating new ideas. People are only capable of using what they know and learning something new. But we are not capable of generating new ideas. If there is ever a new idea it's simply by accident or the person that created it is mentally damaged. We follow the majority of people and the influences in our environment around us. If both your parents are Catholic, than you are most likely going to be Catholic. That is an example of environmental influence. People that seem lost in life tend to grasp on to anything they can. When one person is drowning, you throw a buoy out to them because of the fact that if you were give yourself as an object to grab, in panic that person would probably drown you along with themselves. The same concept applies to religion. When someone is lost they panic and latch onto anything they can. Religion is a buoy while people are people. Religion is something that can easily be grasped and held onto while people have a tendency of falling and making mistakes.

With this new grasp on an idea that people think is a goal, they abide by it and live for it. Without it, people find themselves lost and without a goal. In a sense they are "dead". This is why religion is not something easy to part from. It's a set long term goal that people follow. While there are people who live short term goal based lives, a long term goal is always more stable. Religion is in a sense human nature. The thing is, religion is always based on something. In the case of most religions, it's a certain scripture. This scripture is usually a story. It may also be a collection of scriptures. But the thing that needs to be argued here is that good stories will always have a deeper meaning or metaphor. With these scriptures, there is a meaning but humans in their simplistic nature never pass the gilded exterior of an object. The outside of the object is always the easiest to understand and grasp, as is a story in a book. While the deeper meaning and the actual mechanisms that run the device remain a mystery to most and are only revealed to elect individuals. This is the point that Campbell tries to argue.

In conclusion, almost everything that Campbell says backs up my original thoughts on religion and why people need it. With some adjustments I understand exactly what Campbell was trying to say and find the flaws in a 11th grade argument and mend them. I guess Campbell has added concrete in my dilapidated brick wall of ideas.

Selflessness Does Not Exist

To summarize, there is no such thing as selflessness, there is only selfishness in this world. While you may think that there is selflessness, it is technically correct. I will elaborate. Selflessness is simply a type of selfishness. Selfishness is defined colloquially as the desire to benefit oneself. The rule of selfishness stands true above all else. Take the act of helping someone else. This is sometimes called selflessness. Say that you are helping them with their home work. This might be selflessness or it might just be that you want something in return. While this may not be evident in that specific moment, because you helped them, you expect them to help you back later on. This is the benefit of a co-beneficial relationship possibly called "friendship". Because you expect something back, you are actually not selfless, you are selfish. While other people might be thinking, hang on, I don't want anything back from them, I only do it to help them, I never expect anything back. Half of you are right and half are wrong. There are people that are unaware that they expect things back, so you still fit into this category. To address the others in this room, you help people because it makes you feel better. You are helping people to stimulate the reward cortex of your brain. This is actually benefiting yourself. You get that feeling of goodness about yourself because you helped someone. Do you see now why selflessness doesn't exist? We only do selfless things to help ourselves so therefore, they are not actually selfless. This entire conversation stems from primal humans which I reference a lot. In the days of hunter-gatherers, our goal was to live for ourselves and ourselves only. We want to live, this is survival instinct. That is the point of life, we strive to survive. Everything we do is selfish and there is no denying that.

Definition

http://bigthink.com/think-tank/consciousness-why-study-what-you-cant-define

Again this topic brings back the thoughts about relativity. This relativity is quite specific to definitions. The way we define things will effect our outlook and our actions. Say for example, define for me the word love. Do you consider kissing, a mutual relationship, marriage, dating, or hugging love? Different people will define love differently based on how they feel. Some might think that there is love between close friends while others will think there is love based on a marriage. While here in the discussion of consciousness, there lies the problem about studying consciousness. While this article talks about where the consciousness of a person exists physically, you need to define what consciousness. Some people believe that consciousness is a detached part of your body that doesn't need to live inside of you. It is similar to your soul, this is why out of body experiences exist. Other people believe that consciousness is actually in your brain and is the simple process of neurons firing, that's why when we suffer major physical injury we die.

Hesitation...

Hesitation is a natural instinct that happens when we remember the potential consequences of a decision. Take for example you are going to make a decision on whether or not to go to class today, if you choose to not go to class, there will be a brief moment where you consider the consequences of not going to class. This hesitation brings up both the choices again for our mind to ponder. As a survival instinct it usually means that we are doing the wrong thing. Although even with this hesitation, we do it anyway sometimes. Is that really the right thing to do I wonder? I'm thinking too much again. This post was basically fueled from my previous post. I spent a good a good minute paused before clicking the publish button. I didn't want to hurt someone's feelings so I was quite vague though, they might recognize it's them. I hope I didn't offend them.

I'm Invisible. Help

In all honesty this is a serious post. This has been an issue since around the beginning of the school year that I've never run into before. If anyone can spare some time to read and post a reply that will help a lot. To make it short, I'm asking for advice of what I should do. Normally I don't ask for advice but, I have to, I can't take it anymore. This is what's wrong:

Recently, I've run into a unique issue. I don't exist in the life of a certain person. It irritates me too much and I can't stand it anymore. I'll refer to this person as 'Person A'. Apparently I don't exist in the eyes of Person A. This isn't a simple issue of they acknowledge my existence but choose to neglect it. That scenario is where people don't talk to you normally but will cooperate when forced to. This situation is different. Person A will not talk under any circumstances unless forced to. When they need to, it's only for the necessary amount of time. There is no awkward silence after, simply a disregard for my existence. Person A will stop the conversation abruptly and stare off into the distance. In a more normal scenario, Person A has almost never looked at me or made eye contact with me. It seems as if the only time they do it is when it was an accident and they were staring off into the distance, and I happen to be there. They have managed to have conversations through me to another person and still manage not to make eye contact. Maybe I'm just being paranoid but to be completely honest, I want to be their friend. As far as I have observed, I'm the only person that Person A disregards.

I've come to the conclusion that I don't know what to do and that I need help, so please leave a comment on what I should do considering my lack of experience in this situation.

Is Space Travel Viable?

http://bigthink.com/above-the-clouds/from-millennium-falcon-to-falcon-9

In my opinion, space travel is certainty possible, maybe it won't be reliable in our life time, but I believe that we will reach the stars one day. This article simply explains the complications behind space flight in our current day and age. I believe that anything is possible with technology, it simply takes time and effort for us to create such powerful devices. There is a saying that, "Extremely advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." This is one of the reasons why I believe we can reach such a high goal. While it may not be in my life time. As long as us humans look forward, we will always make progress because that's who we are.

How "Everything" is Relative

At first I was going to make a post about how there is not set definition for smart, but in the end I'm going very general. Everything is relative. By everything, I mean everything. I'll split this post into various topics to keep it more readable.

Smart
I'm sure you've heard someone say, "He/She's smart." But what does that really mean? He/She gets good grades would be a simple definition for it, but is that really what smart means? Does being smart in school really directly relate to being smart in real life? The answer to that is No. How intelligence actually works is that our intelligence needs to be split up into various topics and groupings. The first two things I want to differentiate now is Wisdom and Intelligence. Each have their own sub-categories within them. Wisdom is something I'll touch in the next topic. Wisdom is defined by me simply as the knowledge we obtain over time. This includes what we learn in school. Intelligence on the other hand covers everything else you would associate with smart including, the ability to learn fast, memorization, quick thinking, logic, imagination, and other such things. Memorization directly ties in with Wisdom. While if you look at this, some people you call smart for the wrong reason. Smart is a term that is improperly used. Because one person get's good grades doesn't mean that they are smart as long as you are looking at it with the current education system we have. Because of this "faulty" system, people are classified as smart only because they work hard. People that work hard receive the title of smart. They don't require any of the abilities that true intelligence has, but they are still qualified as smart. On the other hand, there are people that receive bad grades and can be considered smart. Those are the types of people that are smart but lack this hardworking ability. In a way the education system is not flawed, it judges people on their ability to work hard, which is a good indicator for the future. In other ways, it is completely senseless. To be smart is very broad and it truly depends on the scenario. No matter how you look at it, people define smart differently. Intelligence in current society, ignoring my definition of it, is relative to another. When you are called smart, it's usually a comparison between the person complementing you and yourself. They compare themselves to you and see that you have more desirable traits in regards to either Wisdom or Intelligence. I'm sure we've all been called smart but at the same time we've all been called dumb. Smart is relative to the person that is talking.

Wisdom
This also falls under the category of smart. Wisdom is highly relative. There are so many types of wisdom that it's foolish to group them together. People also call people smart because they know something that that person didn't know. Although this is truly the worst way to classify smart. Because you excel in one topic, doesn't mean you know everything. Although this is complicated in itself. If you know a topic you can be called smart, but on the other hand you may be ignored or disregard. If for example, you know about telluric currents and another person doesn't, the usual result is that you are considered smart. While on the other hand if you knew about The Beatles, you would be ignored or disregard. Why? It's simple. One topic is more esoteric than the other. If everyone in the world knew about telluric currents, then you would also be ignored. Wisdom is relative in this sense. In a way everything is relative based on society if you want to be specific. The societal norm is what everything is based on, take for example morality

Morality
The topic of morality was why I changed this from a simple talk of why smart is relative to, everything is relative. We had to write on this topic in English and this kind of sparked the idea. I'll be short with this one. Morality stems from individual thoughts. Morality is heavily effected by your environment around you especially if you are young. Morality is always constantly changing as more things effect you even this second. A easy way to understand this is a cube of clay. When you are born you start with a certain shape of or morality. When you get a fresh block of clay, it's very easy to mold and shape. As time goes on and the less you touch it the harder it becomes. Overtime the clay hardens. Your morality will slowly become more stable, but when you are born it's mushy and very easy to change. While you are really old, your morality can still change, it's just that much more force required. Morality is all based on what each person thinks. Although the majority of people have their morality influenced by society of the current time period. This revolves heavily around the concept of Good and Bad.

Good and Bad
This is a topic that bothers me a lot, it's easy to understand yet some people don't fully grasp it. There is no such thing as good or bad, it's simply a figment of your imagination. Good is what is socially accepted as good in the world. That means the majority of people in a certain community believe that doing such an act is beneficial and is accepted. Bad on the other hand is what that majority of people in the community believe as unacceptable and unsatisfactory. While this definition is wildly accepted, a much better way to explain it is in terms of morals. Each individual thinks one thing is good and another is bad based on their morals, which means good and bad are defined in your interactions with your environment.

These are just some of things that are relative. Everything is relative, maybe that's why Einstein was considered "Smart", although his grades certainty don't show he's smart.

My Ideology on Friendship

I think I wrote a lot again, I grouped my thoughts into small subtitles for organization purposes.

Introduction

This is a tricky topic to start, not because it goes against other people's beliefs, but because of the fact that the word "Friend" has been warped too much by society. Let me ask you a question, how many people are on your Facebook friend's list? A lot huh? Well out of those hundred or more, how many are actually your friend? Do you talk to them on a daily basis? Or do you simply keep them on your friends list because you know them, or talked to them once? The truth is, almost everyone I know would answer no, that these people aren't actually friends. This isn't what friends are, well at least what the point of friendship was. In this post I will use the word "Friend" lightly as anyone else would in colloquial context, so be aware of my usage.

Let's start off by defining what "Friend" actually means. When I first got a Facebook I was certainty hesitant about adding so many people on my friends list, and honest I don't care about friends on Facebook to this day. I don't bother adding people on Facebook, all I do is have people add me instead. This list of "Friends", or a better word might be acquaintances, don't really mean anything to me. Acquaintances might be putting it too far ever. This list is nothing more than a database of people that you've met or have any sort of relationship with them. Some of our friends on Facebook, may be strangers that simply sent you a "Friend Request" without knowing you. Friend has a very blurry definition these days and I want to clear this up. The first way I found to clear this up is to simply group people into different groups.

Group Classification

First we will make a large circle which we call "People". This is using the general terminology of "Facebook Friend". Anyone in this circle is a person that you would add on Facebook. Inside this circle would be the next group of friends, people that you actually know in real life. This isn't even close to what one would consider friend. The important part of this group is that you actually know these people in real life. The relationship between these people and you ranges from mutual to close friends. This group could be called something along the lines of, "I know them".

The next group lies within the "I know them" group. I would like to title this group as, "Good Relations". These are the people that you have good relations with to best friends. This is the stage where you can freely talk to these people about stuff. Although you would never trust your deepest darkest secrets to some of them. You simply don't trust them enough. You trust them enough to be nice to you and in return you are nice to them and can have conversations on an almost daily basis. This group of people are what most people would actually call friends if asked about. Although this does not fit my definition of "Friend".

The next bubble inside is much more vague. As we delve deeper into these smaller groups the boundaries are much harder to see and sometimes aren't even solid. This next group is the "Close Friends". These are the kinds of people that you've known for a long time, and talk to much more. You probably have gone to their house, or gone somewhere with them to do something fun. These people you might even call best friends, while when I use the term "Close Friends", I don't actually mean that they are friends. Just because you know someone for a long time, doesn't mean that they are actually "Friends." A better name for this group might be "Close Acquaintances." Although that term is also quite vague.

The next group also lies within "Good Relations" but doesn't actually fit inside "Close Acquaintances". This group is something along the lines of "Almost Friend". These are the people that you haven't known for a long time, but you know for a fact that they are great friend's and you would gladly be around them all the time. They are fun and enjoyable to be with. Conversations are always friendly and they don't pester you past any kind of breaking point. The only problem they lack is that they are not that close and there is the problem of being with them more. You are distant from them but still retain that sense of friendship. These friendships have a tendency to end abruptly because of unforeseen consequences, or simply a shift in the environment around you.

The next group doesn't actually lie inside many different groups. This group is what I call "Friends." This group usually overlaps with "Close Acquaintances", but also lies partly in the group "Good Relations", and yet also partly lies partly within "Almost Friend". This person is someone everyone wants, this is what people would call a best friend. Usually there is only one of these people simply because they are so hard to find. There is the chance that you have more than one though. They have all the good characteristics of "Almost Friend" and they are not distant. They stay by your side and are willing to help and give effort to help you do things. They are the kind of friend that knows they want to do something but will be willing to give that up to help you do something else. Although this relationship is commonly confused with the relationship between master and servant. While he/she is willing to help you and spend time, you must be willing to help them back. Without that co-beneficial relationship, you aren't truly "Friends".

You may have noticed that this is getting complicated, and I agree. You may also notice that what I consider "Friend" may differ severely from what you call a friend, that I have a very small circle of friends. I'll tell you we're not done. There's one more group left.

This is the group that fits inside "Friend". This is one of those things that is almost impossible to find. Usually most people don't have this person. This is almost guaranteed as only one person can take this role. Most people living right now will never find this person, and I don't think I have either, though I could easily be proven wrong. This person has all the positive characteristics of all the groups above and one more thing. They are willing to sacrifice for you. They are willing to put everything they have on the line to help you and support you. It doesn't matter the circumstances. This is what I call "The True Friend" He/She, is that person that will help you no matter what, and will believe you no matter how absurd you may sound. They will always look for the best for you. This is one of those relationships that both people must agree on. You can only be a "True Friend" to one person if they are a "True Friend" to you too.

This is getting a little too complicated so I added a diagram. Don't you love diagrams too? I added color. I hope that you can get a better idea of what's going on. This diagrams is meant simply to be a visual aid. The sizes of the circle don't signify how large the groups should be. I'm just bad at making properly spaced circles.

Movement of People in these Groups

When you place someone in one of these groups, it's almost never permanent. The only people I can think of that can be permanent are either "Friend" or "True Friend". These people will usually never change or shift out of their groups. Otherwise, people will commonly shift out of their groups and move all over the place. I've had people move from "Almost Friend" all the way to I know them, in personal experience this has happened to people because I lose touch with them after the school year ends. Then it ends up that we don't cross paths often. I have although noticed that they tend to come back into their old group on occasion. Recently I've had a "friend" move from "Good Relations" to "People". While this barely seems possible it has happened. The also forgot my name, which definitely made me sad, yet that's what happened. I have observed that movement from groups become difficult as the groups get smaller. It's almost as if the walls surrounding the groups get taller as you head deeper in. It is however possible to move someone from the inner chambers to the extreme outer chambers, although that would require effort on your part to isolate yourself from them. There is no reason to move them that far however, if you are truly close friends with them, there's no reason to move them. It's even harder now a days since people can access the internet and contact you that way.

Closing Statement

Friendship is something that I don't take lightly, or have ever taken lightly. Right now though because of the change in society I'm trying to expand my perception of friendship and in a way make the circles larger. I also want to make a note about relativity. This system is based on one person at a time. For example, if you (Person A), classify me (Person B) as "Good Relations", it doesn't mean the same the other way around. I (Person B) might classify you, (Person A) as "People". While it may seem insulting, it is one of the things that I think should be understood. Person A and Person B don't have the same perspective on everything. While in the category of "Friend" and "True Friend", as I've stated before, both Person A and Person B need to agree that each other is actually in the same category.

I find that people take friendship more lightly. This is something that don't really understand too much. While I don't have much in the way of anything else to say, I will offer one more thing. For those of you that like watching anime, a good anime to watch regarding this topic would be , "Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni".

Death or Life

When I offer the word death, what comes to mind? Sadness, doom, despair, other such pessimistic words? Though I pose the question, why is death such a negative tone. Although I think for now, society is moving away from this negative outlook. While it still is negative, many things have changed from back then. If you look closely you'll notice that death is much openly received. Death back in the old days, was always more brutal, that's the kind of society we were. Think back to any wars back to world war 2 or before. They were brutal. The brutality now is nothing compared to back then. In today's society death is much more trivial, if any of you in STAC remember watching Frankenstein, you might recall the high age rating on the movie yet we never really saw anything brutal or gruesome. Death was much more negative back then, now our perception of death is much more lighthearted and it takes much more to scare people. Horror films now a days, offer brutality and torture as the way to go. Back then, simple death could make anyone scream. While death has taken a turn toward being lighthearted, because of history it's still associated with gloomy words. People are afraid of dying early, they fear that they have more left in their life. While we will truly never know if that is the case. I think, when the time right, it's time, maybe it's just me but death should not take such a dark tone. We've integrated notions of death and occult symbolism into our society in various bands and other works of art. While it may not be the right thing to go on a mass suicide revelation type event, people still need to understand that maybe in certain situations accepting death is the right thing to do. Instead of fighting it.

Mirror's Edge

To be honest, this doesn't fit with the theme of anything I have on this blog so far but. This is cool, not that I'm saying everyone should do it. This guy is a professional, yeah it's a guy dressed as Faith (Main character in Mirror's Edge (Female)). But none the less this is pretty good, for how hard it is to do those rolls with the camera.

The World Sucks, Doesn't It?

Warning: I wrote a lot this time, I guess.

This is a heavily heated topic about how the world sucks. I sure everyone has to agree that the world sucks in one way or another, although the extent to which it sucks may vary from person to person I'm sure everyone thinks this way sometime in their life. If you have never thought this way before, go ahead prove me wrong. Though I'm bringing up this topic for a different reason. I'm here to talk about the opposite. Most people right now consider life to be boring and they would rather live in that fantasy world of their dreams where they play the protagonist that always wins. However, this is not the way to go.

Let's start with what's wrong with that fantasy world. If you always win, you will not know defeat. That might sound like a good thing but let's be honest. Failure is better than winning. When you win you learn nothing, when you fail you have the opportunity to learn everything. One needs to seize this opportunity by the hand and learn from their mistakes. When you always win, you learn nothing and remain dumb and ignorant forever. With this always winning world, when something upsets you it will simply cease to exist or never have existed at all. If this was the case with the real world, the world would have ended long ago. If we look to our mistakes as our achievements in life instead of our failures, the world looks different.

Take a step back, look at your life, what do you see? I worthless human striving for something so high yet they can't reach it? A being setting their goals to where no improvement is gained? Or that possibility that you see someone that is setting their goals in the right spot? I'll tell you to change your goals to that person that set's goals just about their reach, then all they have to do is push themselves to stretch a bit to reach it. You may think changing is quite hard. It might be but the point is not to give up. When you make a piece of art, it's always good to take a step back from your work while you're working on it. Take a second to look at the whole picture and re-adjust. When you take that moment to look back, if it looks a bit bad do you scrap the whole thing? No, you simply try to fix your mistakes. Now let's take a scenario of the whole thing is bad.

In art one might say, this is too bad and not fixable, I'll just have to scrap this. Though this is where art and real life differ, you should never give up. In art you can start a new one, but in real life, you only have that one canvas. You were only given one canvas to work with, you are not getting another one. This is not the time to mess up, this is your chance to shine, if it means changing everything maybe it's for the better. If you were given a dilapidated canvas it doesn't matter. As long as you have one you can make something, maybe you can even utilize the materiality of the messed up canvas to your advantage. Create something different then others.

You may hear people say, the world is fair. In my eyes, it's not true. People get different opportunities and some live better lives than others. Although this isn't the point, we only have one life and we need to live it to the extent that we can, when our lives end, you should not be sad that you ran out of time. Your life ends for a reason, it means you are done. While the piece may look incomplete to you, it's done, and it's over. It's time to put down the brush. Even that chance that your piece is actually unfinished, maybe the person next to you, or even the people next to you glanced over and have been inspired. This inspiration is the spark of hope. You've given something to the world that can't be taken away.

Maybe you've already done enough with your life. Although, it's never okay to use that as a reason to end your life. Putting down your brush intentionally doesn't mean you're done, it mean's you've given up. You need to wait patiently for the teacher to put down your brush. Only he can tell you when you are done, no one else, and if you sit there waiting for the teacher to say you are done, yet he never comes, you are not done. You are sitting on your life doing nothing. Death by old age is everyone's dream. Wisdom comes with old age. Once enough wisdom is accumulated, your death becomes inevitable. Maybe death shouldn't be associated as such a bad word or it will seem that my post ends on a dark note. Why not lighten up the mood? You have that chance in your life, drive your life forward and upward.

Tech over Flesh

Remote Controlled Dogs

Well, this might be an improvement but it is probably an extremely controversial topic of moving away from flesh and going to technology. We've already become a technologically dependent race, I'm sure you've seen all the movies about how once technology is taken away from us, we become savages. Revert to our primal states. Though with remote controlled dogs I don't see the point in this, can't we just make robots that do this for us? They would be much more responsive to controls and would also be much more accurate than the dog's sense of smell. Maybe I'm thinking too far ahead in the future, I'm sure robots will replace dogs one day.

The Unspoken Theory of Human Preeminence

While this post may sound extremely biased toward the societal theory of human ego-centrism. To start off people are selfish, that's the one thing that most people can agree on. Although some believe that all humans are selfish. They back up this theory with the theory of evolution. Humans are creatures at their basic level. All natural creatures consider their lives as important. The extent of this importance will vary going from creature to creature, but it will always be there. Although this is not the theory I am going to discuss. There is what I feel is an unspoken theory that pops up but isn't directly mentioned too much. It's the hypothesis that the human brain is unlike anything in the universe. While this may sound obvious, what I mean is the fact that the human brain is made to manipulate the fabric of space and time. This may sound completely ridiculous at first yet the more you look into it, you will start to notice things. I'm sure you have heard the so called power of the human mind. It's not something I don't believe in but think for a second how this exactly works. What this power of the human mind is saying is that we do have the ability to manipulate and control everything about our body. We can create pain, erase it, perform superhuman feats such as lifting weights normally impossible for our bodies, and going dormant for weeks without too many consequences. We can even heal our bodies to an extent. I'm also sure you've heard of the fact that we can only use a very small percentage of our brain. The rest is locked, and once we unlock it we can ascend to a higher state. Consider this, how many books, movies, shows, or any other literature have you read or seen that poses the potential of the human brain as a manipulator of the space time continuum? There's actually quite a bit, even the ones that don't outright mention it, it's still showing the power of the human mind, for example telling the future, telekinesis, and all sorts of things. This theory may or may not be real, we will probably never know yet it ties into our lives that we live. People say that if you put your mind to it, it will come to you, or you will prevail. If this is such an unspoken topic yet used colloquially surely it has some truth in it. Right?

Self Perception vs. Perception of Others

Today's topic won't be about black holes unfortunately. Recently Brian has posted a comment on another blog post I had and he had asked the question, why do our own experiences come less naturally to us than the experiences of others? While Brian probable posted this question without thinking it would be answered, I will try anyway. This question bugged me for about 3 hours while I tried to come up with something. I guess I came up with something, although it may or may not be true, it's still fun to ramble about.

Humanity is naturally a curious race, according to science, we observe the world around us. It never mentions anything about self observation simply because it's harder. In the physical sense, it's easier to look at someone else's back instead of your own. It's always easier to see things about others, than it is to see things about ourselves. Mentally, it all has to do with bias. When we think about ourselves we have a bias toward ourselves. We either think we suck or we're amazing. Usually the in between is harder to come by, but it can happen. With this bias that we suck or that we're amazing, we tend to strongly lean over to one side of the topic. Also for ourselves, we don't have a rush, we know we will be with ourselves for the rest of our lives, because of this, people don't think about themselves as much as they think about others. If it's someone else, we tend to have much less bias toward them and it's easier to see all their faults and strengths without any hesitation, whether they see it or not. We also don't know how much time we will spend with others so we rush to see what we can pull from them. Lastly it's human nature to benefit ourselves, we seek others only to see how we can benefit ourselves, as a result we tend to judge others much more extremely than ourselves, we have the given that we already know ourselves so we don't tend to judge ourselves. Everything tends to tie back to our nature as animals.

Inability to Learn Consciousness

http://bigthink.com/think-tank/consciousness-the-black-hole-of-neuroscience

On the topic of consciousness, there's a real problem with how to physically explain exactly how it works because of the fact we don't understand how the physical brain works yet. We perceive it as neurons firing and chaining together. This is not always the case, there have been studies on active brains that show that quite often, one part of the brain will fire and dissipate, then as a result of that firing another part completely unrelated to that part will fire even though there is no physical connection to them. That is the problem that scientists face, why does that other part fire. I found this read bringing light to me on the actual history of consciousness. While I know a bit about it myself, the history was not in my understanding. I had thought that ancient societies had known about it. I guess I'm wrong since it was only ever created during the Reformation Era.

Relative Timescale

Time is something that everyone seems to treasure, it's something that allows people to get things done. We all need time whether we are having fun or doing work. It's something to take stress off of us, but what is time exactly. Seconds, minutes, hours, are all synthetic. Time is something man made on a scale that everyone can base their own relative clocks on. We all have relative clocks that run based on what ever they happen to run on, this is the reason for the difference in people's reflexes. They perceive time slower and are able to react faster. Although the difference between people isn't much it can make differences. Although time isn't exactly something that only animals can sense.

According to some studies plants also have a "sense of time". If one were to observe plant growth you would notice that the plants grow based on their surroundings. Vines tend to feel around and then latch onto objects after they have determined that a safe object is there. Although this takes months of time. the perception of time in the eyes of plants differs from our own dramatically. Although the time I'm talking about now is only relative to the earth.

Gravity plays a massive role in time. You may or may not have heard of it but the more force gravity exerts, the slower time becomes. There is a famous experiment where two clocks which are in perfect sync are placed at different elevations. After a long period of time, the higher one starts running faster than the slower one only by a bit, but the difference becomes noticeable. The more gravity there is the slower time gets. If you are close to Jupiter or even inside, time will run slower for you than on earth, same with any kind of large celestial body. Black holes included.

I hope to get these kind of posts out early every week or so. If I can't due to time restraints, than I might skip it or post later in the week. These posts will be me blabbering on and branching out further and further from the actual topic. It's kind of like surfing the web and clicking links, except it's all in my head. Topic for next week will probably be black holes. If you want to suggest anything you can leave a comment. No guarantee I'll chose your comment but it's worth posting it. I might get inspired.

Clicking Links

Google Visual Assets Guidelines
Logos and trademarks seem to be extremely specific to the company that makes them. The simplicity of icons somehow makes it look even better. Although it makes me wonder what people can really do with this. If someone were to change this only slightly it could look very visually similar yet it would no abide to the guidelines. Would Google be able to sue them? It's technically not their own product, because it is different. Yet in this world it's quite hard to have unique ideas because of how many people there are in this world constantly spewing new ideas. It's like a race to the top.
The Alphabet
It seems that all original alphabets started off as pictures on the page to describe what was being seen. Although it's quite weird how we actually produced an alphabet. If you look at Chinese or Korean or Japanese, their written language is quite different. Each word consists of one or more characters that all stem from pictures of the objects. There is no alphabet structure in their languages.
Etruscan Tombs
These tombs are quite interesting, it's similar to some sort of world wonder except for that fact that it's not that largely publicized. For these tombs to be built over such a long period of time makes people wonder how they kept it up for so long, and weather or not they are truly related to each other. It could be a massive coincidence that multiple similar cultures set their burial grounds in these areas and all committed to some sort of games.

http://www.palantir.com/
There is a nice theme going on here, the cause can make most people want to help. The website gives off a professionally simplistic look. This will help people not feel overwhelmed and easily navigate the site. On the main page there's a nice news feed which should be crucial to sites like these. It also has a nice user interface design, also very simplistic. Sometime simple is the best way to go.
Technology
This brings a good point about how technology can benefit and harm. Although this seems obvious, the technology to hunt down criminals can be used unintentionally to harm innocent civilians. The thing is that there are no rules on the internet. The internet is too new to have based laws to protect people on the internet. Right now there's only surveillance but there is no protection against criminals.
Toy Decapitation
Somehow I ended up here at this gruesome tale. I guess it relates to technological harm, although not exactly in the way I thought about it. It kind of shows that people need to take risks to do things they love to do, yet those risks can lead to serious disasters even if all safety precautions are looked into.
RC Helicopters
Personally I had no idea that these toy helicopters had this much professional qualities around them. I had known that some of the high end toy helicopters included a nitro type thing, yet I didn't know there were so many developed tricks to flying them and maneuvering them. From the previous article the man seems to be an expert in this field and when looking at these maneuvers they seem very difficult to pull off or illogical.

11 Tips
This site doesn't provide any negatives about crowd funding, although to be honest maybe there are no negatives. I would find that hard to believe though because of the fact that almost everything will have a negative side to it.Sometimes it just takes time to find out what exactly that is. This site also doesn't provide many details into how exactly money funding works and how the sites that host the crowd funding actually make money.
http://www.sec.gov/News/PressRelease/Detail/PressRelease/1370539807423#.UjSJ-sakq18
SEC seems to have a hard job. They have to deal with these types of things everyday. I guess that's what the government is for in America, I suppose that communist or authoritarian governments would have much less trouble because of total control over everything.

KickStarter
Kickstarter has a really nice site. Everything is nice a modern looking with easy readable stats on recent projects and popular ones before you even need to click them. This could incite people to support something if it looks really good or really popular. I've heard of Kickstarter numerous times before where independent companies advertise brand new games or products. The scale of the difference of these products is immense.
Planetary Annihilation
This game seems to have been extremely popular among everyone. This indie game was created by such a small tiny company that only started recently. It's amazing what kind of ideas people can take and morph into something so amazing that everyone wants it. I guess this is the point of original ideas now. Taking a preset concept and warping until it's different enough to be called unique.
http://lukeplunkett.kinja.com/
It's someone else blog, he appears to be a gaming commentator and something like that. He talks a lot about games and stuff. Although even though it's just gaming he seems very serious and he even talks about the small parts of gaming. I guess that makes him an expert right? He talks about good soundtracks about computer parts and stuff like that
Arma III
This game has recently revived some really big popularity. The Arma series seems quite nice, it's made to be a sort of super realistic. This one seems to be really over the top. The creators of Arma 3 had gotten arrested for espionage on another government while working on the Arma 3 game. They needed reference images of a military base for their newest release. The graphical quality of this game just becomes ridiculous at this point.

Blog... What?

The concept of a blog is fairly new to me. As an assignment I will probably find this quite tedious though, if I were to keep a blog running, it would probably a weekly past-time. Maybe it would be more than once a week, but I guess I won't know for a while. What do I intend to talk about on this blog? What ever comes to mind will commonly be the topic of discussion. Weather it range from a extremely controversial moral topic, to a simple question elaborated in an esoteric way, I don't care. Although the question I pose today might be a little off topic from the ones I describe, I hope people get an idea of what they are in for.

Fractals

Fractals are quite interesting originally when I first discovered this topic, yet I never expected them to be present in the real world on any kind of scale. I thought it was simply a man made mathematical thing. http://fractalfoundation.org/2009/11/fractal-globules-in-dna/ shows how DNA uses fractals to properly fold upon itself without interfering in anyway. It's quite amazing that something can naturally form such a shape that has no knots at all. Honestly things that are natural are much more interesting than what people produce, and what we do produce that is beautiful is almost always based on something in nature. Modern architecture revolves around the idea of observing nature and producing a structure based on that.

Artist's Bio

Darren Ling is a writer that attempts to specialize in philosophical fields indirectly. As a 16 year old he writes stories with meanings that all tie into a bigger picture. He has been influences by many people and that has shaped the way he is. He gives no credit to one specific person for the way he is now. Although he delves into the deep end of philosophical and questionable topics, his experience as a writer is rather limited and produces an amateur piece most of the time. His goal is only to write and express his inner thoughts. He seeks to influence others in a good way, he doesn't wish to end up influencing others in a negative way. He wants others to think. With these unusual terms in mind, he continues to write.
